Moving is a stressful event and can be made even more frustrating if you aren’t prepared with all the necessary supplies. It can help to make a list of moving supplies so you can start gathering them before the move to simply the process. The following is some information to help you gather everything you need for your next move.

Boxes

When you’re moving, it’s important to have a variety of boxes to help you pack your items away securely. There are several places where you can find boxes for cheap or even for free. Most home improvement stores and movers sell various sizes of boxes that are designed for moving. Many grocery stores, liquor stores, and other retail outlets will give you free boxes if you ask for them. Call around to a few places near your home to find free boxes. When choosing boxes be sure to look for ones that have lids or tops that can be sealed shut. It’s also important to look for sturdy boxes that can support heavy weight.

Packing Tape and Materials

Don’t skimp on packing tape and packing materials as these will go a long way in keeping your items secure. It’s best to purchase tape that’s specifically labeled for packing use. This type of tape is designed to keep boxes secure during the moving process. When it comes to choosing materials to pack inside your boxes to keep valuables safe, there are quite a few options available. Packing paper, bubble wrap, or packing peanuts are great for cushioning fragile pieces that need extra protection during transit. Moving blankets work well to cover and protect large items like furniture, mattresses, and electronics.

Labels and Markers

Thoroughly labeling your boxes is a step you don’t want to skip when you’re packing up your stuff. Be sure to have dark colored markers on hand to label your boxes. Some people prefer to use labels on the box. Labels are especially helpful if the box has other writing on it as a label can stand out better. To make it easier you can simply write directly on the box. Wide tipped markers are ideal for labeling. Be sure to label the top and sides of the boxes so you can easily see the contents from all sides without having to lift or move the box around.

Cutting Tools

Scissors and box cutters are also essential during the packing and unpacking process. Be sure to have a couple of pairs of good scissors along with 2-3 box cutters as these items are often misplaced during unpacking. Both can be used to break down boxes after the move. Plus, you’ll likely find many other uses for them as you’re packing and unpacking.

When you’re planning a move, it’s important to gather any supplies you may need ahead of time. If you take the time to prepare ahead with all the supplies you need for packing and unpacking, the entire move will be much easier and less stressful. With some items like scissors and box cutters, it can be helpful to have more than one, so you don’t have to worry if they get misplaced during the move. With packing materials it’s best to get quality ones that will protect your stuff while in transit.
